What is Chinese Almanac?

Chinese Almanac is a book as shown in the pictures and this one is the Malaysian’s edition. Each country like China and Hong Kong has their own versions, but the details are the very much the same. The dimension is 5 inches in width, 9 inches in length and 1.2 inches thick. For the Malaysian’s edition, the contents are all written in both Chinese and Tamil version together. Every year or end of the current year, a new issue will be issued for the following year.

For the Chinese, there is another calendar that we called it the “Lunar Calendar”. It actual has all the necessary information of the day itself. For example, the first day of the month we call it in Mandarin sound like this “ Chu Yit” and the second day “Chu Er” and so on. On the fifth teen day, is the full moon day. On the first and the fifth teen day of the month, Chinese people will usually clean their altar and decorated it with some flowers for prayers. Most of them also will go for vegetarian food only on those two particular days.

When come to the Chinese Wedding, this almanac plays the most important role for plucking an auspicious dates.  Auspicious dates are really numbered in a year. Most of the Chinese wedding dates will fall on these auspicious dates only.
